Memorial Day Brunch at Les Crêpes – A Taste of France in Carytown

Since my mom had the day off for Memorial Day, we decided to spend some quality time together and treat ourselves to a bit of brunch adventure. We ended up at Les Crêpes in Carytown, a charming French-inspired spot known for its unique crêpes and cozy atmosphere.

When you first walk up, you’ll notice the building has a bit of history—it looks like it used to be a bank. Inside, the space is cleverly divided to feel more intimate, with different sections that give you a semi-private dining experience. We were seated in the area near the bar. The decor is elegant and straightforward, but one thing that stood out (not in the best way) was the music—it was just a little too loud for the kind of relaxed vibe we were looking for. It would make a big difference if they lowered the volume a bit.

Now, onto the best part—the food.

I ordered a cold mocha, and my mom went with a Diet Coke while we caught up and enjoyed our time together. For food, my mom chose the Les Crêpes French Toast—a French toast dish dusted with powdered sugar, served with three scrambled eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, and maple syrup. I went with the Tiramisu Crêpe, which was a pleasant surprise. It came stuffed with ladyfingers dipped in espresso and coffee liqueur, layered with creamy mascarpone, and topped with Nutella. I expected it to be smaller, but I was pleasantly surprised by how generous the portion was.

My mom enjoyed her dish overall but mentioned there was too much-powdered sugar and no butter served with the French toast. Also, the waiter never checked in to see if we needed anything, which was disappointing.

After finishing our meal, we had to wait about 15 minutes before the server returned to ask if we wanted anything else. Then, it took another 10 minutes to get the check. He even mentioned he forgot to add an item and would fix it while running the card, which wasn’t a big deal—but it would’ve felt more professional if he had reprinted the receipt correctly. He also disappeared with my mom’s card for about 5 minutes, which made her uneasy. She kept checking her account afterward for peace of mind.

Overall, it was an okay experience. The food was definitely the highlight—creative, flavorful, and filling. But the customer service left something to be desired. My mom said she wouldn’t go back, but I think I’d give it another try if I got the chance—maybe just with the hope of a different server and quieter music.

If you’re looking for a place to try something new and love French cuisine, Les Crêpes is worth checking out—just be prepared for a potentially hit-or-miss service experience.
